Honoring Maternal Mental Health Month: Our Founder Accepts Proclamation at Wichita City Council Meeting
On May 20th, 2025 we were proud to witness a meaningful moment in our community’s journey toward greater awareness and advocacy for maternal mental health.
Taryn Zweygardt, LSCSW PMH-C, co-founder of Flourish ICT, attended the Wichita City Council meeting to accept an official Proclamation declaring May as Maternal Mental Health Month. This recognition highlights the vital importance of supporting parents through pregnancy, postpartum, and the full arc of the reproductive experience.
“ Let this proclamation be more than symbolic. Let it mark the beginning of open conversations, increased access to care, and a commitment to policies that protect maternal health—for this generation and the next.” said Taryn Zweygardt, LSCSW, PMH-C in remarks to the council. “Mothers matter. Maternal mental health matters. And stigma has no place in our community.”
Why Maternal Mental Health Matters
One in five women experiences a mental health disorder during or after pregnancy—yet far too many go undiagnosed or untreated. These challenges can affect anyone, regardless of background, and they ripple into relationships, early parenting, and long-term wellbeing.
This proclamation affirms the city’s commitment to:
Reducing stigma around maternal mental health
Promoting education and awareness
Supporting accessible, trauma-informed care
At Flourish ICT, we see firsthand how essential it is to create safe spaces for parents to heal, be heard, and receive expert support. From therapy and pelvic floor physical therapy to prenatal fitness and medication management, our team is honored to stand alongside families in their most vulnerable seasons.
